As you might expect, the Blue Mountains region is one of the most beautiful places to visit in New South Wales. It is an area that is deeply entrenched in history and a place that has more activities for the traveler than you can imagine.

Blue Mountains was founded by Admiral Arthur Phillip a naval British admiral. At the time, he was the governor of New South Wales and he named the area Carmarthen and Lansdowne Hills. Later it was named Blue Mountains because the mountains actually look blue from a distance.

When you want a comfortable stay at a bed and breakfast in the Blue Mountains can be very cozy and breathe taking. One wonderful place to stay is Kookaburra Cottage Bed & Breakfast because it is small, quiet and sits within several plush gardens. The breakfast is fantastic because you get a breakfast pack of cold and hot food that you can prepare in your room at your leisure.

Leura is a small village in the Blue Mountains that is very popular. If you want quaint accommodation that is somewhat private, you will want to try the Peartree Cottage Blue Mountains bed and breakfast. It is a traditional cottage with a warm atmosphere and is ten minutes from Leura’s visitor center.

When you want to explore the area there are many restaurants, shopping and activities to choose from. Nearby in Lilianfels you can feast on Australian cuisine at Darley’s or have a more casual experience at Tre Sorelle which stands for Three Sisters. The scenery here is great for weddings or a romantic getaway. A Blue Mountains bed and breakfast can be a superb way to get reacquainted with someone you love.

There are so many things to do in this area that you won’t have a problem finding something to do. Nearby are the Wentworth Falls and Katoomba. You can also take tours of Wentworth Falls and Katoomba. These two areas are for hikers and they have a variety of hikes you can take depending on whether you are an experienced hiker or a beginner. You can do walks on the cliff tops and rock climbing.

Another must see place to explore is Megalong Valley because it has natural beauty to see. Megalong was named by the aboriginals and means valley below the cliffs which is exactly where it is located. This is a place to go when you want to have a quiet picnic or hike in the bush lands.

Anytime of the year that you visit a bed and breakfast in the Blue Mountains you will have lots of events to attend. Many are art festivals or botanical extravaganzas that include music and natural creations. An example is the Devouring Dinosaurs & Monstrous Muttaburrasaurus Quest that is located at the Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens. Here you will have fun for the entire family as you go through the garden, learn about the dinosaurs of Australia and watch as they emerge from hidden places.

If you are a writer or musician, a good time to visit a Blue Mountains bed and breakfast is in October for the Songlines Festival. You can hobnob with world famous creative people and listen to a concert in Jenolan Caves. This is an experience that many people say you shouldn’t miss; and don’t forget to stay for the closing called Floating World.

There are plenty of fun and interesting museums that you can visit while you’re here – a Purse Museum – which females would surely love, the New South Wales Toy & Railway Museum or the Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum which are steeped in history and make a great outing.
