When you want to find a Mudgee getaway, you might want to stay in a Mudgee bed and breakfast. One of the favorites of tourists is the Ardrossan B&B Mudgee. This is a farmhouse made with double bricks and it is a beautiful space for weddings or romantic getaways. Because it is a farmhouse type of b&b, you will receive a five course breakfast and eat it amongst the natural wildlife.

If you want a Mudgee b&b closer to the Central Business District, you can stay at Belmore Cottages Mudgee. The stylish and pretty décor will instantly make you feel at home. You can explore the grounds or just relax and enjoy the environment; this makes for the perfect spot for getaway cottages.

If you prefer caravans and camping you can stop at one of the many Caravan Parks that allow you to experience camping or a cabin, depending on your individual tastes. They are generally very shady and grassy so you have a nice place to relax on your holiday.

The small town of Mudgee is one of the oldest towns in the area. The name Mudgee is actually an Aboriginal term that means nest in the hills or Moothi. You will find the old buildings intriguing and the Cudgegong River Valley a picturesque landscape.

When on holiday visiting Mudgee you will want to experience Market Street with its variety of old buildings. First you will find the Classical Revival post office that dates back to 1862. This was one of the first country post offices in this state. There is an old police station with stables that dates back to 1860 and a band rotunda that dates back to 1903. This is quite a part of Australia’s history that you will enjoy.

Other things to do here on your getaway might include a trip to the museums. Mudgee has a couple that are worth going to. The Gulgong Pioneers Museum in nearby Gulgong is a small heritage museum that gives you an idea of the Australians of the area. It is complete with several reconstructions of buildings and shops, including a blacksmith shop and bake house. The Mudgee Museum takes you further back in time and gives you an understanding of what it was like to be a pioneer in the very early days.

One of the local events in this area is the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days that happens in July. Since Mudgee is a small town its farms are very important to the culture. On this day tourists and locals can find out more about the farms and how they operate. While you explore the farms you will also be entertained with music, food and fun.

The Elliot Rocke Mudfest in March will give you a chance to see the short films from local talent. This is a film festival that has a variety of creative ideas that the locals have put to film. You’ll be surprised at what you find.

After seeing all the sites, sit back and relax in the hot tub or take a very relaxing bath with a glass of wine at your Mudgee bed and breakfast and unwind!

Speaking of wine, you may want to try a bed & breakfast in the Hunter Valley also on the Central Coast. If you stay, Abelia House may have just the right accommodations for you. They are a traditional homestead and for a little extra charge, you can drive to the various vineyards in a 1939 limousine.

Bathurst Bed and Breakfast

Bathurst is a little known treasure of a town in New South Wales and is a great place to get some peace and quiet and stay in a local bed and breakfast when you just want to get away.

One of the older country towns in Australia, part of its charm is the wide streets that once had a traffic of oxcarts moving up and down the street. Early British settlers brought influence with the trees and Victorian buildings. You might wonder how Bathurst got its name: it was named after a colonial secretary, Lord Bathurst in 1815. A governor by the name of Macquarie visited the area and at the time it was a settlement. So, he founded it and named it after Lord Bathurst.

If you are looking for a quaint out of the way place to stay in Bathurst you must try the Elizabeth Manor House. This is accommodation at its finest and you will find it warm and welcoming. You can find elegance here with your choice of a breakfast hamper or a country style breakfast cooked to order in the morning and a glass of port or sherry meets you in the library after a long day. This is a great Bathurst bed and breakfast to stay at and relax.

Bathurst Heights bed and breakfast is another great place to stay and it is very different from Elizabeth Manor House. Here you can look out your window for beautiful vistas and soak in the quiet or in the Spa that resides inside the Spa Suite. Get ready for a gourmet breakfast that is both filling and refreshing. An interesting note about this b&b in Bathurst is that it won the 2007 NSW Award for Excellence for Hosted Accommodation.

When you are looking for something to do on your stay there are many places to go within walking distance. The Bathurst Aquatic Centre is a great place to go for supervised swimming. You can bring the kids and try out all kinds of water activities. If you or the kids don’t know how to swim, you can take swimming lessons while you are there.

Bathurst is a great place to go no matter what the season. If you visit during September or October and you have kids who love horses, then you might consider staying at the Jackeroo Ranch Riding Camp.

If you’re in Bathurst, you must visit a museum or two. The Bathurst Goldfields Museum is an extremely interesting place to visit, as well as the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum.  The Bathurst Racing Museum is another exciting place to see.

For a very unique experience, you must attend a Concert in Jenolan Caves. Can you imagine being in an underground cave, that stays cool all the time, that also accommodates a stage where performers entertain people with their music. This can be had in this special location. Beyond concerts, you’ll find art activities and for the same price you can have an opportunity to meet with the artists or have dinner. You could spend the entire day in and around the caves.

If these activities seem a little tame, after you leave your bnb in Bathurst you might want to go for an evening at the raceway. Bathurst is famous for its harness racing and they usually race in the evening. Another fun place that you must see is the home of V8 Supercar racing – Mount Panorama.

If you’re interested in art, the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery is a place not to miss. Afterwards you can relax at your bed and breakfast in Bathurst.

In the town of Orange you will find interesting things to do while visiting a local bed and breakfast. Because of the history of the area, if you go down the Mitchell Highway you will run right into the place where Kenneth Slessor and Banjo Paterson, both poets were born. Orange is also the place where the very first V8 supercar Championship was held in the Gnoo Blas circuit; at that time it was called the Australian Touring Car Championship.

When you go to Orange, accommodation is plentiful and it really depends on whether you want the convenience of a modern hotel or traditional b&b to be a tourist or get to know the town.

There are several different types of bed and breakfasts that you can choose from. If you would like a farm experience where you can go and see a working farm, you might try a farmstay. If you are more into history, you might try a cottage. All of the different accommodations are available in packages that meet every need.

As an example, in Orange you could stay at Warriwillah Bed & Breakfast. Located in Millthorpe it is very peaceful inside the gardens filled with beautiful trees. They offer ensuite that is filled with coffee and tea and for breakfast, you get a continental breakfast inside your room. If you like a rural setting, this is a beautiful location.

If you would like to stay on a working farm, these can be very interesting and rewarding, especially if you are from the city. An example of this is Barcoo’s Barn bed and breakfast in Orange located outside Perthville.  From Barcoo you can explore the many bushlands located in New South Wales and get close to kangaroos and koalas.

You will find this to be an extremely laid back environment. Grove Creek Falls and the, Abercrombie Caves are nearby; both of these are attractions you won’t want to miss. You can choose to have breakfast in your room or to have a full farm breakfast.

Speaking of attractions, there is much to see in Orange and the surrounding area. Not only will you find the Abercrombie Caves but there is also an attraction called The Archway which Abercrombie is famous for — it is a natural arch that is larger than any other arch in the area.

There is also the Gold miners dance platform which is over 120 years old and people are still using it –very brave people we think! You can also take guided tours of several caves in the area. Bring your cameras too — it is a great place for bird watching.

There are a couple of major events worth mentioning. First, there is the annual TBA Australian Disabilities Championships for Tenpin Bowling. This starts at the end of May and goes for two weeks into June.

If you like locally grown produce when you visit places the Orange Region Farmers Markets happens in June. You will find 40 different stalls with a variety of flowers, produce, plants and organic food. This is a delicious event that locals and tourists look forward to each year.
